Taranaki is the fourteenth largest region of New Zealand by land area Taranaki has the tenth largest population out of sixteen regions. Taranaki includes the urban centre of New Plymouth. Taranaki has the third highest rainfall and third highest number of wet days of the main regions in New Zealand. Taranaki's average weekly income for people in paid employment is the eighth highest in New Zealand. The most advertised jobs in Taranaki in 2004 were dairy farmer/worker, sales assistant, registered nurse, care giver, general clerk, and cleaner. Unemployment in Taranaki is slightly higher than the national average, which is still very low. more
