Southland is the second largest region of New Zealand Southland has the eleventh largest population out of sixteen regions. Southland includes the urban centre of Invercargill. It also has the second highest number of gusty days over 93kph and the second highest number of rainy days. Southland's average weekly income for people in paid employment is the sixth highest in New Zealand. It has the lowest median house prices out of the main regions.
